Wonderful Online Kid Sites (FREE)

My kids LOVE to spend time on the computer. But like any good mom, I don't want them "wasting" their brain cells on mindless games. So, I thought I'd share some sites we've been using for a while and a new one that was just shared with me. Please share any other sites you've come across that you really like.

Geography: SHEPPARD SOFTWARE Isabelle has been using this site for well over a year. I count this as her geography test. She likes to race me. So far, I'm still faster but she is quickly gaining ground. However, she can beat her ol' dad!!!

Preschool Phonics: STARFALL Kolbe LOVES this website. Great for learning letter names and sounds.

Typing Practice: DANCE MAT TYPING (BBC) I just found out about this one on my MODG loop. I've been thinking about buying a typing program for the kids but now I think I'll just use this. Should I admit that I don't type "correctly" and will benefit from "playing" on this website, too? Na!

Latin: MEMORIA PRESS Isabelle was having a problem remembering her weekly Latin words until she started "playing" over at Memoria Press. They have quizzes and games made for every lesson. I LOVE it because I can get her to review past lessons without using flashcards and boring her. Latin has gone from being the dreaded subject to being the funnest. And she no longer minds reviewing "trouble lessons" because it means more computer time. ;-)

Religion: EWTN KIDS is the site they go to for "games." They love dressing the baby and lighting candles and making prayer requests. They also enjoy "choir" practice. Sophia has a tendancy to send off prayer requests that aren't even real since she can't spell. But I'm sure the sisters receive alot of those emails. At least I hope so!!

If I think of any others, I'll be sure to update. I will also link these sites on my sidebar. Again, share any good sites you've found.

**The only computer software I have bought for the kids are for math. For math we use software programs from Singapore Math called Rainbow Rock (1st & 2nd gr.) and Vroot and Vroom (3rd & 4th gr.). Next year Isabelle will move up into Wiggle Woods. My kids ABSOLUTELY love these CD's and spend most of their computer time using these programs. If they could home school exclusively on computer, I'm sure they would fire me in a heartbeat!!

Now to find a website that drills the Baltimore Catechism! LOL!

Thank you for this information! My kids have been enjoying the games at www.multiplication.com to help drill their multiplication skills. Some of the games allow you to drill specific sets of facts and others are random. The baseball game is a favorite of my oldest son.

Matilda, thanks for the recommendation. I had fun playing and I'm sure the kids will too!! I've added it to my sidebar.

Great sites, thanks Lillian! How'd the scrapbooking party go? And did you get a new camera? The recent pics are so good and look especially sharp!

Peter really likes the starfall site. Thanks a bunch! I was surpised at how much he was able to do. He blew past the first 5 lessons in one sitting. Then sat on the computer another hour teaching his sister. Awesome!
