Summer swim team is over. Of course, Isabelle has year round swimming but that doesn't count. It is so a part of our lives that it doesn't affect our daily schedule. However, we've been busy doing fun things. Last weekend we went to Chuck E. Cheese and to see the movie, Prince Caspian. We liked the movie. Although, I had to leave 3 times for various potty breaks. So, I anxiously await the time I can see it again at home .... with no interruptions!
This week was loads of fun. Craig took the entire week off. And we had best friends visit. The kids were overjoyed to see their buddies. And I was beside myself being able to talk constantly with a dear friend. Unfortunately, my loathing of grocery shopping was more powerful than my desire to be hospitable. And so we ate out or ate sandwhiches the whole time we had visitors. I really need to try to stay on top of grocery shopping. *sigh*
This week we also went to the Greatest Show on Earth AND to Sea World. We finally bought our passes ..... for the next 2 years! I imagine we'll be going weekly.
I'm busy reading through all the children's syllabus and getting things ready for the next school year. I hope to start August 1st. There will be a few changes for next year, the biggest one being: UNIFORMS!! Yep! I've found TONS of skirts, skorts, and slacks in navy and beige at the Goodwill Store. They were about a buck a piece!!!
The children will be picking whatever colored polos they want from Land's End. We won't have a true school color since everyone wants different colors. And I think we might all get bored with just white or navy tops. I'm trying to minimize our clothing and make life simpler.
We've used uniforms in the past but normally just the bottoms with whatever tee shirts. Lately, we've been running into the problem of the kids wearing their favorite outfits at home and then expecting them to be clean when its time to go somewhere. I'm hoping the uniforms solve this problem. Also, uniforms are just built tougher and don't get ruined. AT ALL!! They're built for tough play (which is what my kids excel at!!) and last forever!!
I'm thinking about cloth diapers, again. THINKING. I haven't decided. Not sure if they are worth the effort since laundry doesn't seem to be my strongest homemaking duty. Mostly, I just miss them. Anyways, I went looking for my old company (Weebees) and they are gone!! :-(
For those of you who use cloth diapers, who do you buy from? I mostly like Prefolds 4X8X4. I prefer the Alexis diaper cover (which are also not made anymore) but will probably use Motherease covers. That's if I decide to go this route. I gave away my All-in-ones and prefitted diapers. And that's fine. I did keep my newborn prefold diapers (all 3 dozen) but that's it. So I'm actually okay for starting out (after I get some covers). I'm just trying to figure out if I really have the time. After all, I will be homeschooling 5th, 3rd, 1st and Kinder. This would probably be ALOT easier if I hadn't taken a 4 year break!!! LOL! I guess I will just use the newborn diapers and if I can make it pass the first 4 months, then I'll buy more.
Any recommendations on where to buy diapers/covers? How do you homeschooling mommas keep up with the laundry?
Finally, Craig thinks my adding a music playlist on the side is going to slow things down for you. Is that true? Is my blog loading slower? If so, I'll remove it. It doesn't bother my loading speed so I never gave it a thought until Craig mentioned it. He thinks it should go. Personally, I think he doesn't care for my music selections. ;-)
Well, back to getting ready for the school year. Hope you're enjoying your summer!

Glad you're "back"! I like the music selections but usually automatically mute blogs with music, just cause it's loud and sometimes annoys me when I'm trying to read.
I need to email you about our trip; I think we'll be at a condo w/ my parents Weds/Thurs but possibly might need a place for Friday if they can't get one.
Okay, and the diapers...you can totally have yours back!!! I can bring the AIOs (grew out of them) and the thin snapping ones I haven't used (have a whale or something on them?), and I think you gave me a Motherease dipe and cover? And some inserts? Really, he's only wearing prefolds and my friend's covers right now. I really like the prefolds with either Prowraps or Bummis covers I've borrowed. The velcro is so much easier than the pull-on variety!
Sounds like the K's had a great visit! I love the uniform idea! And I look forward to talking IRL very soon!
Your uniform idea sounds great! Loved reading your update, Lillian...
obviously I don't have much to comment on the cloth diapers...but maybe in a few years!
hoping to see a "belly shot" of you soon! can't believe this pregnancy is flying by so quick!
Prayers!
I love the music and it doesn't slow anything down for me at all.
The uniform idea is neat. I can imagine a picture with all the bright color solid shirts - fun!
I didn't cloth diaper Camille, but for what it is worth, I've been hearing from a couple of people that BumGenius is really good brand.
I usually mute my 'puter, but since I have DSL, things are still pretty peppy even with it. I think the speed problems are mostly for folks with dial-up...which I would probably have if my fiancé could stand it (heh). But the DSL in my area is cheap enough to be worth it, I guess...
I keep the sound off so I don't have to hear anybody's music or sound effects. I hate that. But I can't hear it, so I don't care, and the page is loading just fine.
As for the diapers, it only takes me like 15 extra minutes a week to run two loads of diapers. Not a big time investment! The actual changing takes the same amount of time no matter what you use. I say go cloth! But I'm biased. Cloth is, in my emphatic opinion, much healthier for baby's bottom. :-)
15 minutes a week!! WOW!! My washer takes 48-52 mins. for ONE wash. And I used to wash each load2-3 times. I also washed diapers twice a week.
Although, this would be the first time having only one baby in cloth diapers.
Sure, the WASHER takes more time, but I don't have to sit there with it! :-) Turn it on, walk away, come back, set it again, final rinse, into the dryer, stack them up and move on. :-) How long does it take to actually turn on the washing machine? To move it to the dryer? To stack them when they're dry? 15 minutes a week, my friend. :-)
LOL!! I never thought about it that way!! You would think I was washing down by the river on a rock!! LOL!
Did you find a good cloth diaper brand? I want to use cloth on Mark...I'm so sad Weebees is no longer around! I still have their diaper bag!

Hi,
(Im new) i was upset also when i saw that weebees had shut down, it was as my first dozen of prefolds had started to fray. i haven't given them up yet, though! i just got some prefolds from www.greenmountaindiapers.com and i have only used them for a few days but they seem great. they are sized better, so not quite as long as the blue edged ones, but just as wide. i loved thirsties covers, but now that my baby seems to be thinning out in the hips they dont fit as well and im back to bummis. i know what you mean about missing the cloth. => they are so much nicer than paper.
Some covers I have liked are Proraps, Bummis, Thristies, and Wonderwrap. You can order from nickisdiapers.com and get free shipping on diaper covers. My favorite cover is a Dappi Cover, but I don't know if I'd recommend a pull-up cover with prefolds if your baby tends to have blow out poops. They are certainly cheap enough to buy and try (I think cottonbabies.com carries them) but I would think that if your baby blew out a prefold you would get poop down their legs when you pulled the cover off. So with that in mind, you may want to start out with a diaper wrap!
I'm a cloth covert. Love Thirsties covers - never a leak - even at night!
