Saturday morning she woke up early and asked if it was time to race Isabelle! LOL!
Here are some video clips of my little Sophia. I'm amazed by her persistance and courage.
1st Video Clip Background:
In this first short clip, Sophia and the other girls are ready to dive in. However, there was a delay because a little girl DID NOT want to swim and was crying. Where was her mother?? She had been crying ALL MORNING. This clearly shows the contrast between forcing a child to swim (or do any sport) who is NOT ready and a child (like Sophia) who is SOOOO ready and eager to start. I don't understand why parents force children into sports when they are not ready.
2nd Video Clip Background: Sophia swimming in the 25 yd freestyle. Pardon my screaming in the background. LOL!! I'm really trying to cheer her on and can sense she's getting tired. Swim meets are so much like horse races!! I love the way she kept looking to see if they were beating her. When she got out, the first thing she asked was, "Did I win?"
3rd Video Clip Background: Finally, here she is swimming the backstroke. I was REALLY nervous because I'd never actually seen her swim an entire lap of the backstroke. She was so adorable and never gave up!! Isabelle was also cheering her on.
FYI: While doing the backstroke one is disqualified if one swims on their stomach for even a little while. Sophia made me nervous several times!! LOL!

Lillian...you are cracking me up in these videos...what an awesome and supportive mommy you are!! That is so great that you have found an activity that all of your kids can enjoy..my husband was a swimmer..on the other hand, I am sooo not a pool person..good thing for them, they've got a dad who knows what he's doing! I really enjoy watching your kids compete!
Good Job Sophia!
she's doing great! she looks so determined! please tell her not to turn over, haha, it's making me very nervous. in our summer league they'd of dq'd her. in our nwal league (northwest houston - spring, woodlands, cypress area) the kids get dq'd on back if the body goes past vertical towards the stomach. its so very hard for the little ones, especially towards the end cause they are so scared of bumping their heads on the wall!!!!
Anonymous, they normally dq for that sort of thing with the older kids, but with the little ones they don't. Our judges realize they are so little and just starting out and really want them to love the sport. The officials for year round swimming are much more tougher. But the summer leagues don't get that particular until regionals.
Right now its about enjoying the sport and learning to love swimming.
Its not until they actually start swimming on their stomachs that they get dq'd.
I don't think I would allow my little ones to swim for a summer league that dq'd 4-6 yo so quickly.
Just my $.02 though. Now my oldest has been dq'd before and has quickly learned her lessons! LOL!
