UPDATE: I first learned about making May Baskets from Cottage Blessings. I don't think its strictly a Marian idea. Louisa May Alcott made these as a little girl. For ours we used scrap booking paper, fake flowers, stickers, ribbon, and tissue paper. To be honest, I don't know the history of May Baskets. But it was so much fun making and delivering. We delivered them to grandparents in person and to cousins secretly. My kids REALLY enjoyed sneaking up to the door and hanging them on doorknobs. They went in pairs while the rest of us waited in the van. We weren't sure if we were supposed to say who they were from so we opted to be anonymous. But this morning I called my cousin and she said they called everyone trying to figure out who they were from. They enjoyed not knowing.

We decorated this table for the month of May. It's going to look so plain after we give away our baskets. We'll need to make more for us!!

How beautiful...the children and the baskets.
Those are really lovely! Where did you get the idea for those...instructions for the paper baskets, history of the May basket, etc.? I'm new to this. :)
Do you decorate your table (or is it an altar) with each feast day or liturgical season? I'd love to hear about whatever resources you're using to get ideas for that. Thanks!
Oh Lillian, they turned out BEAUTIFULLY!! Come surprise us with one! Hee! Hee! What a wonderful idea!!
Love,

Oh Michelle! That table is there by default! I "borrowed" our dining room table for the schoolroom and swapped it with one of the girl's table/desks. Its in our empty dining room and we just decided to decorate it. Sorry to disappoint but I don't have any wonderful resources! We decorate for Advent and Lent mostly.
Jennifer,
I would LOVE to drop by and bring a basket!! Maybe you could visit here and I could have one ready!! ;-)
Love,
Lillian
I love the way your May Baskets turned out! They are gorgeous (and so is your May Altar!)
[You are right about it not being a Marian idea--it is a secular tradition, but last year, I thought it would be fun to turn it into something Marian by adding rosaries and holy cards! It makes the perfect activity to begin Our Lady's month!]
Your post, baskets, and children are just perfect!
